UMCF’s Anchored in Generosity Raises Nearly $50,000 to Support Older Adults Across New Jersey

On May 28th, friends, supporters, board members, teammates, and community partners gathered aboard the River Queen for the United Methodist Communities Foundation’s (UMCF) second Anchored in Generosity fundraiser. Set against the picturesque waters of the Manasquan River and Barnegat Bay, the evening celebrated the generosity and teamwork that helps UMC create abundant life for older adults throughout New Jersey.

Guests enjoyed a three hour cruise filled with fellowship, live music from local acoustic duo Jay and Amy, and a silent auction featuring a variety of items and experiences, with proceeds supporting UMCF’s mission.

Jim Roberts, Vice President of the UMCF, served as emcee and reflected on the many ways supporters help create abundant life through compassionate care, sustainable communities, innovative programming, and meaningful connection for the seniors UMC serves.

David Glenn, Senior Vice President of People and Culture, offered a special prayer to open the evening, while President and CEO Mark Lenhard spoke about the power of teamwork and the importance of the entire UMC “crew” coming together to make the mission a reality every day. From senior leadership and board members to dining servers, nursing aides, and volunteers, Lenhard recognized the dedication and compassion of those who serve older adults throughout the organization.

A highlight of the evening came when UMC Board Chair Rodney Ross and UMCF Board Chair Cora Park introduced special guest of honor Esther Hill.

With warmth, humor, and heartfelt gratitude, Esther shared how finding a home at The Wesleyan, UMC’s affordable senior housing community in Red Bank, felt like an answer to her prayers. She spoke about the joy she has found in the community and how living there has given her a sense of independence, security, and belonging.

Her story served as a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact made possible through the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners.

The UMCF team is thrilled to announce that this year’s Anchored in Generosity event raised nearly $50,000 in support of UMC’s programs and services that benefit seniors across the state.

They extend their sincere appreciation to all who helped make the evening a success, including year-long Premier Partner, Hawks & Company. Special thanks are also extended to Visionary Sponsors: Caring Communities, Hackensack Meridian Health, Princeton Strategic Communications, and Provident Bank, and Patron Sponsors: AllRisk, D.A. Davidson, Eklego Workforce Solutions, Thomas & Danielle Griffith, KDA Architechts, the OceanFirst Foundation, UFCW Local 152, and Vasanth & Susan Victor.

Most importantly, a giant thank you to everyone who attended, made a donation, bid in the silent auction, or continues to invest in our mission of championing abundant life – one act of generosity at a time!
